Abstract:

An electroplating through the Watts bath electrolyte mixed with supercritical carbon dioxide (Sc-CO2) was studied with the focus on the internal stress in the nickel deposit. It was found that the internal stress in the nickel film plated through the Sc-CO2 method was higher than that in the conventional one. The presence of surfactant in electrolyte further increased the internal stress of nickel coating. However, the internal stress can be reduced through the raise of current density and temperature, the reduction of CO2 volume fraction during plating and the addition of saccharin into electrolyte.
