Abstract:
Handover is important for mobile station to roam from one base station to another. In this paper, we evaluate the performance and energy degradation of handover event in 802.11b WLAN using the network simulator NS-2. Handover scenario of a mobile station moving between base stations has been implemented using infrastructure mode operation. The handover scenario is simulated using different parameters such as beacon interval, type of scanning, mobility speed and distance between base stations. Simulation results illustrate the analysis of handover latency and energy consumption of mobile station during handover.
