Abstract:
Managing maintenance management effectively is extremely difficult owing to various instruments in construction lab. Those instruments need high standard and requirement in precision and accuracy of tests. With the advent of the Internet, web-based information management solutions enable information dissemination and information sharing among related staff members. Generally, maintenance managers and staff members require access to the instruments location to handle inspection and maintenance work in construction lab.
Usually, maintenance staff members generally use sheets of paper to handle various types of maintenance information, including specification, checklists, maintenance reports, and maintenance historical records. Consequently, there is serious rework progress regarding the data capture and entry in maintenance progress. The application of bar code scanning and data entry mechanism can help improve the effectiveness and convenience of information flow in the maintenance management. In order to enhance the effectiveness of inspection and maintenance work in construction lab. This study presents a novel system called Mobile 2D Barcode-based Maintenance Management (M-BCMM system for the acquisition and tracing of lab instruments maintenance information on locations and providing an instruments maintains information sharing platform among all participants using web and 2D barcode technology. Integrating promising information technologies such as smart phone, the MBCMM is then applied in a construction lab in Taiwan to verify our proposed methodology and demonstrate the effectiveness of maintenance progress in construction lab. The combined results demonstrate that, an M-BCMM system can be a useful web lab maintenance management platform by utilizing the 2D barcode approach and web technology.
