Abstract:
Facility layout designing methodology strives to increase the overall productivity of the line through optimized space utilization and efficient use of material handling systems. Making changes to the existing layout is a very costly business. Simulation is creating the replica of the real life processes thus saving time and money. Simulation aids in identifying the obstacles in the implementation of a layout and delivers appropriate options for successful implementation. The Simulation model was used to examine and optimize processes in the existing layout. The proposed approach employs “WITNESS” Simulation Software to design, evaluate, and maintain effective plant layout and material handling system. Obtained results are used for statistical analysis and selection of the best layout is done using Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to ideal solutions (TOPSIS). This analysis results in the optimal solution to get maximum efficiency out of the layout.
