Abstract: Exit guarantees provide a channel for the military regime to re-intervene in the political system, and constitute an important obstacle for the consolidation of democracy. As a result, abolishing them is a precondition of the transition from transitional to consolidated democracy. This study tries to figure out to what extent exit guarantees have been abolished in Turkey during the JDP government, especially after the recent referendum on constitutional amendments. In doing this, the present study also unassumingly presents an account of the current situation of civil-military relations in Turkey after a 7 years rule under the JDP government.
