Abstract:
In digital era, Technology has wired entire world into unavoidable network. Youth is the segment of the population in world which is under great impact of digital era revolution because they are seen most engaged with variety of digital tools. So, the current paper is focused on youth growing in the Digital environment. Digital technology offers both opportunities and challenges in how people communicate and interact socially. The purpose of this research is to investigate how the digital world affects digital natives in the contemporary era. The main focus of the study is to look into the factors on how technology influences communication and social relationships in our daily life. The development of digital technology had a huge impact on this generation that has strikingly changed their cultural norms, values and traditions. The technologies have become an important part of their lives and without using them, they cannot complete a task. The qualitative research is conducted in three selected universities of Islamabad. In-depth interviews, focus group discussions and participant observation were the core techniques used in the research. The research was carried on a sample of one hundred and twenty-eight students from the three universities. The research findings provide the usage patterns of digital tools by the youth, how they have developed new norms of interactions and how the patterns of social interactions are undergoing changes. Technology is empowering digital natives but in a way controlling and manipulating their wellbeing. So the study concludes that the norms are changing and they are more towards the self-directed learning. Patterns of social interactions and socialization itself are under the great impact of technology.
