Abstract:
With the massive victory in the state(province) of Uttar Pradesh, in India, the rightist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears invincible and a political alternative to it seems non-existent. The historical causal factors for the rise of the BJP needs to be situated in the global political economy. In the last few decades, there is a shift in the nature of politics all over the developing world. The locus of politics has shifted more to the right within the political spectrum. In India also, this shift has happened and the rise of the BJP is a manifestation of this shift. The analytical framework of a post-postcolonial political order that has been used in this paper has applicability not just in India but in polities across the developing world.
