Abstract:

The legacy R2P demonstrates that more effort needs to be directed towards the development of a body of expertise which seeks to improve the appropriateness, coherence, sustainability and legitimacy of post-R2P state-building initiatives. An improved success rate for interventions will make the political will stronger in the Security Council to take action when necessary and may also encourage the international community, acting through the Security Council more likely to engage in timely and meaningful action in the future.
