Abstract:
Solid Waste Management, SWM, is a worldwide problem that caught the attention not only from the scientific community but also from the public. In developed countries, the SWM is a well planned processes that is designed specially to suit the conditions and characteristics of the community. However, in developing countries the situation is different. The SWM is in such a poor state that it pauses a threat to public health and environmental resources. The main cause of this deteriorating situation is a lack of clear objectives, coupled with a lack of information and of a strong analytical base in which policies and strategies for solid waste management can be formulated. This study focuses on establishing, modeling and comparing options for improving the present state of solid wastes based on the environmental, economical and social impacts. This analysis will be perfume according to the life cycle assessment approach. The study provides information necessary for strategic planning and decision making by solid waste management practitioners (private, national and local authorities). The overall objective is to provide a clear roadmap towards improved management of solid wastes in the State of Kuwait. In addition, the study creates a databank upon which individuals, universities and other research institutes can base their future research programs.
