Abstract: With the available inventory data, model estimation of trans-boundary movement of mercury between the countries in North East Asian region was performed. Mercury emission and distribution data from China available in the literatures and those in Korea measured by this research group were plotted on the regional map. Also CMAQ-Hg model was used to predict distribution, transport and deposition of atmospheric mercury with time and elevation in a model domain. A quantitative estimation of transport of atmospheric mercury from China was made with such available data in the region. A noticeable result of modeling was the introduction of significant amount of mercury from China to Korea especially in winter. The estimation showed that up to 40{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of mercury was introduced into the area of north east region of the Korean Peninsula in February due to wind direction, while no effect was noticed or exported to Chinese side during summer. This study is the first attempt to figure out the quantity of trans-boundary mercury movement in the North East Asian countries and it needs collaborative works between countries with providing proper emission information and related investigations. Further, more inclusive emission inventory in air, waste and waste streams and trans-boundary movement studies are to be carried out in the future to formulate science based policy decision on controlling mercury pollution in this region.
