The ground-source heat pump system uses a relatively constant ground temperature to emit heat in summer and to absorb heat during winter for obtaining heating and cooling energy. It is important to accurately estimate the thermal performance of the ground heat exchanger in the system design. This study focused on the parameters affecting the performance of horizontal heat exchanger for effective use of the horizontal ground heat exchanger. To investigate the performance of the horizontal heat exchanger, numerical analyses were conducted for a parametric study on the performance of the horizontal heat exchanger by using Midas NFX CFD, which can analyze heat flow and is based on the finite element method. In this work, the type of heat exchanger was chosen as an affecting parameter for the performance, and a numerical analysis and its verification were carried out. As a result of the numerical analysis, a spiral coil-type heat exchanger showed 10~11{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} higher heat exchange rate than a horizontal slinky-type regardless of ground and other conditions. Therefore, a horizontal spiral coil-type heat exchanger could be better than a slinky-type heat exchanger in view of the thermal performance. Finally it can be concluded that it is quite important to choose a proper type of heat exchanger according to its installation purpose.
