Abstract:

In this paper, an experimental investigation and also numerical modeling of effects of weather conditions such as temperature and humidity on the performance of silicon solar cells in Singapore are reported. Based on one-year experimental data, complicated behavior of energy output as a function of ambient temperature that is different from literature results was found for all kinds of silicon panels that were studied (monocrystalline, polycrystalline and amorphous cells). Our experiments as well as numerical modeling suggest that the complicated fluctuation can be explained as a direct dependence on humidity in Singapore. Results we reported in this paper may have important implications in the future development of solar industry in coastal regions like Singapore.
