Abstract: We attempted to examine whether leisure autonomy significantly moderated the relationship between stress and sleep quality among older adults. Five hundred sixty-one older adults living in Taichung City, Taiwan were selected as participants. Data were collected by a face-to-face questionnaire survey that included measures of leisure autonomy, stress, and sleep quality scales. The data were analyzed using a regression analysis. The results not only indicated that leisure autonomy significantly moderated the negative effect of stress on sleep quality, but they also showed that leisure autonomy could directly contribute to sleep quality. Implications of the results are discussed.
