An investigation was carried out to assess environmental temperature dependencies of glycolytic cycle enzymes in Marwari breed of goat belonging to arid tract in India. The activities of enzymes regulating glycolytic cycle in the liver which included hexokinase (HK); phosphoglucose isomerase (PGI); aldolase (ALD); glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) and pyruvate kinase (PK) were determined during moderate and hot environmental tempertaures. Results showed that hot environmental temperature modulated the glycolytic pathway of carbohydrate metabolism in the animals of both sexes and all age group. All the enzymes determined showed significant (p≤0.05) increase in the activities during hot environmental temperature period except glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase and pyruvate kinase, which showed significant (p≤0.05) decrease in the activities. This showed that initially the rate of glycolysis increased and then it decreased which was related with the diversion of the metabolic pathway. Changes in the activities of the enzymes associated with glycolysis in liver gave an overview of the modulation of pathways of carbohydrate metabolism. The investigation has presented the basis to understand the underlying mechanisms of carbohydrate metabolism during hot environment which can help in formulating balanced energy ration and healthier management of the goat in arid tracts.
