A Continuous Quality Improvement Program for Medication Safety Management in Private Residential Care Homes for the Elderly in Hong Kong

Abstract:
Errors in medication administration in residential care homes of the elderly often lead to adverse outcomes. Our community geriatric assessment team launched an educational series to a group of 26 nursing homes on medication safety management. A Pre- and post-education questionnaire/audit was performed to access the level of knowledge, skills and compliance in correct medication management. Results showed that a significant improvement can be seen with educational sessions.
