Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to examine the clinical feasibility of the self-efficacy enhancing activities of daily living program for Indonesian stroke patients. The study was a singlegroup pre- and post-test design. Four participants were engaged in the program for six weeks. Self-efficacy in performing activities of daily living (ADL) and independence in ADL were evaluated. All participants reported that they had beneficial experience regarding their knowledge, skills, and confidence in gaining back their ADL performance and prepared what they should do for stroke home care with their family caregiver. They were able to complete the program and no serious adverse events were reported. The result showed participants had significant improvement on self-efficacy in performing ADL and independence in ADL across the time. However, post hoc analysis showed self-efficacy to perform ADL and independence in ADL for each measurement time was no statistically significant higher than others. The application of the self-efficacy enhancing ADL program for stroke patients was an acceptable, safe, and potentially effective approach to promote level confidence of stroke patient in ADL performance and to be independent in ADL. The findings provide support for the applications of integrating self-efficacy theory and ADL program into rehabilitation phases to promote functional recovery of stroke patients in the first month.
