Abstract: This correlational study was to describe the relationships among selected factors predicting factor, enabling factor and re-enforcing factor and self-care behaviors in patients with diabetes mellitus. The samples consisted of 97 patients with diabetes mellitus in the service area of Samakee Healthcare Service Center in Talad sub-district in Maung district of Maha Sarakham province. Data were collected via the personal characteristic questionnaire, perceived risk, perceived severity, perceived benefit, perceived ability, perceived believe, perceived value, perceived attitude, convenience in access to health services, social support, knowledge and self-care behaviors. Data were analyzed by multiple linear regression in a stepwise multiple regression
The results revealed the patients with diabetes mellitus in self-care behaviors were significantly positive associated with all selected factors ,except the knowledge of diabetes mellitus, which has a negative associated with self –care behaviors.
Regression analysis revealed awareness of capability in health care, value in self-care behaviors, and perceive risks of diabetes mellitus explained 40 {6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of the variance in self-care behaviors. According to the study of caring for patients with diabetes, there should be a support for the patients to participate in the management of self-care along with public health officers including adding up positive support and encouragement of self-care. Continuous treatment is required under the supervision of a team of health officers who are qualified in suggesting the patients to avoid possible risks and complications while encouraging their family members to take part in self-care of the patients as well.
