Abstract:

Objective The aim of the study were to investigate the quality of life (QOL) of patients after liver transplantation(LT). Methods QOL of 326 liver transplant recipients was measured using the Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short Form (SF-36) and their general information was gathered at the same time. Results The mean scores of liver transplant recipients for SF-36 Mental Component Summary (MCS) and Physical Component Summary (PCS) were 49.47±7.66 and 49.58±9.68 respectively. Recipients’ scores for all SF-36 dimensions were statistically lower than Sichuan province residents (P < 0.05). Scores for all SF-36 dimensions in recipients in the first year after LT were statistically lower than those over 1 year after LT (P<0.05), while there was no significant difference between the scores of recipients who had LT among 1~5 years and over 5 years (P>0.05). Recipients’ PCS scores were significant correlated to their gender and time after LT, while MCS scores were correlated to their age, gender and time after LT (P<0.05). Conclusion The QOL of liver transplant recipients was worse than normal people, especially in the first year after LT. The influence factors of QOL in liver transplant recipients were age, gender and time after LT. Keywords: liver transplant, quality of life and inventory survey
