Abstract:Urbanization in India in general and North East India in particular referred to growth, trends, pattern, causes etc and prospect, cost of urbanization on the other. Nevertheless, cities-big or small experiences urban change and development at various levels. However, tribal towns in particular are more vulnerable to the uncertain situation in urban development due to the policies attached to the area which in turn are faced by hitches in urban development per se. This present paper highlights the scenario of urban set up of the study area, the paper also spells out the existing land policies that hinder major urban projects for takeoff. Finally, the paper draws attention to the impact and challenges of land issues on urban development.
