Abstract:Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) is about integrating management of water cycle into urban planning, and it works at all scales to manage impact of rainwater from development. In addition to basic hydraulic functions, the assessment of urban flood damage is one of the essential steps in WSUD. This study applied the PCSWMM model for urban flood damage assessment in consideration of rainfall events of different return periods and implementation of WSUD facilities. A hypothetical urban catchment was selected for demonstrating the proposed methodology framework. The results showed that WSUD facilities played an important role in mitigating urban flood inundation and reducing the related damage. The proposed framework, based on our preliminary test through the PCSWMM platform, was found feasible and effective. Future works are desired if these facilities are applied in real conditions, where more detailed parameters such as the numbers/locations of WSUD facilities and their relevant cost, are necessary to be addressed.
